A PIECE OF PARADISE

There are none better: Having spent the last twenty six years hiking, biking and driving throughout rural Hays County, I can say that I have probably been places and seen sights that very few have been so privileged to. I have witnessed the first moments of a fawns life, a mother fox training her tiny pups to hunt, and seen red stag and exotic antelope, standing majestic in the morning mist. I know the best places to kayak, the best swimming holes, and the premier spots to view our incredible hill country sunsets…there are none better.

Home really is where the heart is: Place is very important to me. I am a seventh generation Texan, and can attest that you can take the girl outta Texas [briefly], but you can NEVER take Texas out of this girl! My first introduction to San Marcos was visiting my sister at Southwest Texas State University in the summer of 1974. Even at the tender age of nine, I was fully aware of the "something different, something special" about this region. My father’s family hails from the beginnings of time in Old Austin, and my mother’s father designed many of the original schoolhouses and commercial buildings from San Antonio up through Austin.

A magnetic personality: I’m only half-joking when I tell people that plan to graduate and leave the area that I don’t know when, but they’ll DEFINITELY be back [to the Hill Country] because you never really leave—not something sinister like "Hotel California", more like this place is magic. It’ll put a spell on you. If you’ve read this far, then you know what I mean. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!", well, for those of you who aspire to live in the beautiful, awe-inspiring Hill Country, we welcome you!
